Kareem Jamar Wins the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week - January 14th, 2013

Kareem Jamar has earned StatSheet's Big Sky Player of the Week award for January 14th. Venky Jois from Eastern Washington has won StatSheet's Big Sky Freshman of the Week. And last but not least, Michael Weisner has taken StatSheet's Big Sky 6th Man of the Week. Jamar tallied huge numbers in rebounding (5 per game), shooting (70%), and scoring (18.5 pts per game). The Montana junior played well for the Grizzlies in victories versus North Dakota and Northern Colorado.

Jamar totaled 11 points and 7 rebounds in 34 minutes in a 77-62 win over North Dakota. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 26 points plus an additional 6 assists in an 85-77 win against Northern Colorado.

This is the first StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week honor for Kareem Jamar. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is our own Will Cherry. Honorable mention goes to our own Mathias Ward.

StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week: Eastern Washington's Venky Jois

Venky Jois played an average of 34 minutes as a starter for Eastern Washington. He was number one among all Big Sky freshmen in blocked shots (5.0 per game). In an 82-59 waxing of Northern Arizona, Jois led all rebounding for the Eagles with 14 and added 4 blocked shots. In a 60-53 loss to Sacramento State, he led all rebounding with 7 and also put up 6 blocked shots.

This marks the second time this season that Venky Jois has won the StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Joel Bolomboy from Weber State. Honorable mention goes to Thomas Reuter from Eastern Washington.

StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week: Montana's Michael Weisner

Sophomore Michael Weisner, a 6-7 reserve forward, averaged 25 minutes over the two games for the Grizzlies. In the win against North Dakota, Weisner got 5 points and 6 rebounds. After that, in the win against Northern Colorado, he led all rebounding with 6 and added 66% shooting.

This is the first time this season that Michael Weisner has won the StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week. Calen Coleman, a junior forward from Montana State, is runner up. Gelaun Wheelwright, a sophomore guard from Weber State, earns honorable mention. This is the first StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week win for Montana this season.
