Mathias Ward Receives Honorable Mention for the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week - January 28th, 2013

StatSheet's Big Sky Player of the Week for January 28th goes to Jackson Stevenett from Southern Utah. StatSheet's Big Sky Freshman of the Week goes to Venky Jois from Eastern Washington. And finally, Weber State's Gelaun Wheelwright has received StatSheet's Big Sky 6th Man of the Week. Stevenett had great stats in rebounding (4.7 per game), shooting (60%), and scoring (18.7 pts per game). The Southern Utah senior played well in wins against Portland State and Eastern Washington and a loss to Montana State.

Stevenett contributed 19 points on 57% shooting in 40 minutes in a 76-68 loss to Montana State. That was followed by a team-leading 21 points plus an additional 3 assists in a 76-63 victory over Portland State. Finally, Stevenett racked up 6 rebounds and 70% shooting, closing out the week with a 69-55 win over Eastern Washington.

This is the first time that Jackson Stevenett has been named the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is junior Davion Berry from Weber State. Honorable mention goes to our own Mathias Ward.

StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week: Eastern Washington's Venky Jois

Venky Jois was on the floor for 30 minutes starting the only game for Eastern Washington. In a 69-55 loss to Southern Utah, Jois chalked up 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Venky Jois has won the StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week an astounding 4 times. The runner-up is Daniel Hill from Eastern Washington. Thomas Reuter from Eastern Washington takes honorable mention.

StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week: Weber State's Gelaun Wheelwright

Gelaun Wheelwright, a 6-1 Sophomore guard, averaged 25 minutes over two games for the Wildcats. In a 79-74 loss to Montana State, Wheelwright put up 5 points and 2 rebounds. Then in a 76-74 loss to Montana, he racked up 9 points and 3 rebounds.

Gelaun Wheelwright has won the StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week a total of 3 times. Colin Chiverton, a senior forward from Eastern Washington, is runner up. Jordan Hickert, a senior forward from Eastern Washington, receives honorable mention. Montana has won the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week award 2 times this season.
